Want to setup Surround sound in Linux?

First edit the following file by opening a terminal window and type:Linux Sound

gedit ~/.asoundrc

Enter the following section:

pcm.!default {
type plug
slave.pcm “surround51″
slave.channels 6
route_policy duplicate
}

This will allow to play the surround output and duplicate the stereo output to all 6 channels (not only front ones).

    Just figured I’d post the fact that my copy of Ubuntu came 5.1 compatable straight out of installation. But, I suppose there’s always those who weren’t so fortunate. Good job with the tutorial.
