Have you ever tried to empty the Trash in Ubuntu and got an error saying that some files couldn’t be deleted? This is normally due to deleting files while you have root privileges (ie opening a Nautilus windows with sudo nautilus).![]()
Here is a fool proof way of emptying the trash without any errors, all you need to do is open up a terminal window and type:
sudo rm -fr $HOME/.Trash/

In Hardy Heron, the location is as follows:
/home/USERNAME/.local/share/Trash

sudo rm-fr/home/pvalley/.local/share/Trash
