Do you need to restart Gnome but dont want to restart your whole Ubuntu machine?

First save and close all opened applications.

Press ‘Ctrl + Alt + Backspace’

or

Start a terminal window and type:

sudo /etc/init.d/gdm restart

    Good gods, this is basic GNU/Linux knowledge for almost anyone who KNOWS what they are doing. Has Ubuntu lowered the knowledge bar THAT far? *wanders away sadly shaking head*
