Independent Murdoch University Student Website MyMurdoch has released an official blog. Along with Lloyd Johnson and Peter Clay, I am also one of the original contributors.

MyMurdoch blog will feature actual views and opinions of students without advocating any political agenda. Just straight up student stuff - for all students, no memberships, no revenue raising. As one of the three initial contributors I can assure everyone that the Blog will feature news, information and opinions from a broad cross section of the student demographic at Murdoch. Lloyd, Peter and myself are from different backgrounds, studying different degrees and also studying at different campuses.

Also, because we require no memberships and aren’t concentrated on raising revenue this is also open to any student and any Murdoch student who has a blog can contribute! If you want to contribute then there is nothing stopping you! All you need to do is contact Lloyd and he will help you get started and you can too become active at MyMurdoch!

I have just added the Regional Students’ Association (RSA) to Wikipedia on the Murdoch University Wiki page under Murdoch Guild of Students.

I have tried to kept it as short and and sweet as possible just documenting major changes to the association.

In another update in the groundswell of unhappiness with Reece Harley’s actions during his tenure, it has finally reached the pages of Wikipedia. Entitled 2007 Murdoch University Guild President Controversy, this is an unprecedented action protesting against any Murdoch University Guild President and their conduct while in office since the founding of Guild in 1976.

Including posts on student blogs, emails, and entire web pages dedicated to this disgraceful act of misrepresentation and misappropriation, it is in Reece’s best interest to listen to the people he was elected to represent

Today a new blog dedicated to Reece Harley which is asking for his resignation has surfaced. I Want to Litigate has written a great article about it here “Reece Harley Must Resign!” says an anonymous blogger

After several offers from myself to help the new Regional Students’ Association President Pat Seery with the RSA web page she has inevitably let it die, failing to renew this essential resource for students.

On the day of the elections I offered to help her with the web page if needed, during the hand over two days after I offered to help her with the website, a week later when showing her how to access her emails and the website I again offered to help her with the website. Three times she ignored my offers and now the conclusion is no website for Rockingham and Peel Murdoch University students.

This decision to ignore the need of students at Rockingham and Peel is one which will reach a national level. Gone is the only national Small and Regional Support network, gone is the only Australian VSU Library documenting many issues of VSU from both sides of politics.

But worst of all gone is an essential service for Rockingham and Peel Students. One of the few they had left and it was from their peak representational body the Regional Students Association.

Students have not only lost their website, they have lost Archives of the RSA and progress it has made - locally and nationally, open forums for students, mailing lists to promote the RSA to students and staff, online classifieds, book co-operative, national support network and most of all it has lost its online democratic voice!

Goodbye RSA

Recently CLiCK Computer Recycling helped out Students without Borders - Uganda Project by donating surplus computer stock. The computers will be going to schools in Uganda who do not currently have any computer facilities at all.

2007 marks the first year of full blown VSU for Australian Student Guilds. During January of this year one would expect that a responsible guild president would be ensuring that the financial viability would be one of the foremost issues. However Murdoch University Guild of Students President Reece Harley decided to spend $8,000 on a website “revamp”, which, as at Easter 2007 students have yet to see.

What makes matters worse is that Reece Harley did not take this decision to the Student Executive, or to Murdoch Guild of Students Staff. He decided to blow the $8,000 without any consultation of anyone else at all. To put this cost in perspective this money is the entire Regional Students’ Association budget, also it could of employed a student for a year on a part-time contract. This could of also purchased 200 high quality food hampers for struggling students, payed for expensive text books for over 50 students, payed for 1,500 flu vaccinations or prescription medicine to ensure students don’t get sick.

When confronted by Student Executive members, such s myself, Reece Harley stated that the website would be ready in time for O-Week (Mid Feb 2007). This did not happen. Requests by Students Executive members, such as myself, to disclose the costs to students were and still are being ignored.

Lloyd Johnson has also asked why Reece Harley decided to spend this money on the website considering there are many Murdoch University students who are in desperate need of developing their website portfolios for little or no cost, this has not been answered. This non-existent website, which has been widely hidden from Guild Members and fellow students, has also caused a stir amongst students. Look at the comments which have been left on Lloyd Johnson’s Blog.

This huge expenditure to date has not been released to students, it has not been minuted nor disclosed. Murdoch Guild - How can this go unnoticed? How can you let someone, no matter what rank or level, have access to $8,000 of STUDENT money with no motion, no consultation and disclosure to your members?

Reece Harley, students want to know why you have done this with their funds!

Below is a picture of the Murdoch Guild Website, I, like a lot of students believe this website does not warrant such an extravagant waste of student funds… which have yet to be seen.
