I would like to ask you all a question about work. What would happen to you if you did not do what was expected of you at work? What would happen if you spent your day doing… well not much at all?
Lloyd who is a very close friend of mine, has called into question Reece Harley’s conduct in his position as Guild President at Murdoch University. It would seem he is not doing much at all, and it is just not Lloyd who thinks so. There would seem to be a ground swell of presure building over this issue of Reece just not doing what is expected. In fact today I received an email from a fellow student calling for his resignation.
Some might say, well hang on, isn’t this just political, well no. The simple fact is Reece is getting by paid by students to represent students, which he is not currently actively doing. And if most of us decided to do the same at our jobs, well we would be sent packing. Should the same thing happen to Reece Harley? Make up your own mind.
I urge you all to read Lloyd’s blog article Reece Harley - What’s Going On?

There’s no doubt that there is a currently an enrollment down turn as of late. Even major University campuses in Australia have noticed the numbers of students slipping.
Universities that are feeling it the most are small and regional campuses. For instance Rockingham’s Murdoch University Campus use to have an estimated 1,300 students at its peak, now the campus is dwindling with an embarrassing 500 students.
Although through no fault of their own the current enrollment statistics of Universities in Australia are an extreme reminder of higher education falling out of the grasp of a majority of people.
Murdoch University is one of the few Universities that have world recognised entrance courses for those people who don’t normally get a chance to go to University. The program which I graduated from, Uni-Focus, is tailored for the Rockingham & Mandurah community and serves as an excellent component of the small and regional campus .
However with lower enrolments these enterance courses are becoming more and more scarce, as enrollments drop so do the universities revenue to be bale to run programs such as Uni-Focus.
We at CLiCK Computer Recycling are in a very unique position. We are a community program located on a small and regional campus who are facing the realisation of low enrollments and the reality that in the current climate University will be scaling down drastically. CLiCK has the advantage of introducing individuals to the University campus, getting people on campus to pick up computers gives them exposure to opportunities that they may not of thought about, and may not have relised that they had available to them.
Small and regional campuses need to break free of the shackles of major campuses and relise that their main source of survival is in the community in which they reside. Engaging the community with programs which are specific to the community. With current circumstances small & regional campuses can not rely on the major campuses for their sustainability, lower enrollments, means less revenue which in turn means scaling down of smaller campuses.
